CHANGES TO CHILD PROTECTION PROCESSES
Many people know by now the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) process is changing.
ISA (Independent Safeguard Authoity) registration will now also be a prerequisite for people working with children and vulnerable adults. An up to date CRB check is part of this, ISA registration is in addition to CRB rather than replacing it.
Whilst organisations have a duty to register their employees, as yet it’s difficult to work out what it means for self-employed individuals such as artists and consultants.
Towse Harrison of Sun Jester Consultancy has been looking into this and shared the following update which starts to bring some clarity to the issue…
“Dear Towse
Thank you for your recent email.
From July 2010, individuals will be able to register with the ISA if they intend to work or currently work with children and/or vulnerable adults in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
More information on how to register on-line will be available as the ISA vetting service is phased in. You can be kept up to date with the progress of this by replying to this e-mail to be informed of any new information of the vetting and barring scheme.
How long do you anticipate it taking to achieve ISA registration?
We are working to a service level agreement to help ensure that applicants are ISA registered within seven working days of their completed application being received by the CRB.
If you would like to be kept up to date in the future on the Vetting and Barring scheme, please reply to this email with your preferred contact details.
Kind regards,
Nicola Lane

The information was shared via the GEM (Group for Education in Museums) email list which anyone interested in museums and heritage can join. Find out more here
